The 35th Annual Collective Bargaining and Arbitration Conference
April 26th and 27th, 2012

The Northwest Chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association's 35th Annual Collective Bargaining and Arbitration Conference is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, April 26 and April 27, 2012 at the New Conference Center, Level 3 at the Washington State Convention Center located at Eighth and Pike, Seattle, Washington.

The following Continuing Education Credits have been approved for the Conference:

The Northwest Chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association Annual Conference Committee is pleased to announce Ron Sims as the Keynote Speaker on Thursday, April 26th and Daniel Nielsen as the Plenary Speaker on Friday, April 27th.

RON SIMS:

Appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Ron Sims served as the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 2009 to 2011. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Sims served for 12 years as the elected Executive of Martin Luther King, Jr. County in Washington State. Before becoming County Executive, he was an elected member of the county council. In December, 2011 Ron was appointed to the Board of Regents at Washington State University by Governor Christine Gregoire.


DANIEL NIELSEN:

Dan Nielsen is a mediator and arbitrator, with a practice based in the Midwest and an honors graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School. Dan worked for the State of Wisconsin, primarily as a mediator, arbitrator and hearing examiner with the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission. He also served as an Assistant Professor of Labor and Industrial Relations in the Business School of UW – Parkside, and Director of the school’s LIR Degree Program. Dan has been a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators since 1991, and has served as Regional Chair, a member of the Academy’s Board of Governors, and chair of various committees. For the past nine years, he has served as the Neutral Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee for the ABA’s Committee on State and Local Collective Bargaining and Labor Relations Law. From 2003-2004, Dan was the President of the Association of Labor Relations Agencies, the professional organization for local, state, provincial and federal neutral labor relations agencies in the United States and Canada.
